Description
Harvested in the Ogliastra Mountains of Sardinia, this rare and precious honey is derived from the nectar of camedrio (Teucrium marum). Camedrio honey is characterized by its light, almost white color, fine crystallization that lends it a creamy texture, and a full, well-rounded flavor with a spicy finish and lingering aftertaste. Its creaminess makes it almost like a spoonable dessert.
A Rare and Precious Treasure
This incredibly rare honey can only be produced in the rainiest years, an uncommon event for Sardinia's generally arid climate. For this reason, it is known as the "Gold of Ogliastra."
A Pristine Environment
Camedrio honey is collected in the mountains around Urzulei, an ancient pastoral village surrounded by gorges, holm oak forests, and oak groves, a natural paradise where horses roam free. The honey is produced between 800 and 1,000 meters above sea level, far from any form of pollution, within areas managed by the Forestry Authority. These areas, with their unique and diverse flora, have historically been considered an ideal environment for bees.
Awarded for Quality
In this area, the cat thyme plant thrives with its characteristic pink-purple flowers. From their nectar, the bees produce this precious honey, which in 2012 received a quality certificate at the XXXVIth Montalcino International Market Exhibition.
Unprocessed and Authentic
This cat thyme honey is raw and produced according to organic beekeeping methods. It is unpasteurized, cold-extracted by centrifugation, and has not undergone any heat treatment.
