Our Srinagarinda Organic Oolong Tea is a rare tea from the highlands of Doi Mae Salong Mountain in Northern Thailand.
It is a high quality, low oxidation Oolong.
Harvested on the high peaks around the town of Mae Salong, officially called Santikhiri (translated as Hill of Peace).
In hot water, the beautiful, carefully rolled leaf of this organic Oolong tea develops to its full size in less than a minute. The resulting cup is clear and amber in colour, with a mild but rich flavour, a velvety sweetness and an enchanting floral note. It has a vegetal flavour that envelops the palate and is reminiscent of the most famous of Taiwanese teas, the renowned Tie Guan Yin.
What makes Srinagarinda organic Oolong tea so special?
It is a high mountain oolong - the areas where this tea is grown are between 1200 and 1600 metres above sea level.
Srinagarinda Organic Oolong Tea is made exclusively from the Rhuan Zue variety, the most prized and native to Taiwan (considered the Queen of Oolong teas), and is harvested by hand.
The typical alpine climate, with fresh air all year round, allows this variety to thrive and produce a very renowned oolong tea. Combined with its special processing, this results in a tea rich in antioxidants (quercetin and catechin polyphenols) and other beneficial substances such as L-theanine.
In recognition of its prized oolong tea, Santikhiri was chosen by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports in 2005 as an example of a tourist village.
