Description
Luca Bonizzoni's organic eucalyptus honey is harvested in the Castiadas area, in the southeastern part of Sardinia. Here, during the months of June and July, when the eucalyptus trees are in full bloom, Bonizzoni brings a portion of his beehives. The location is near the beautiful Costa Rey, where behind it lies a dense vegetation of lentisks, pines, and eucalyptus trees.
Sardinia produces a particularly prized eucalyptus honey because the plants, thanks to a unique climate in the world, can reach a height of 25 meters. The most widespread species in Sardinia is Eucalyptus camaldulensis, followed by E. globulus and E. viminalis, with intense blooms, rich in nectar but also pollen, which has a high protein content, much appreciated by bees.
Sardinian organic eucalyptus honey is one of the honeys with the lowest humidity, a guarantee of the highest quality.
This eucalyptus honey is amber-colored, very light. It has a particular aroma, a bit wild and slightly musky. It crystallizes in an instant, within a month after honey extraction. Its fine crystals melt in the mouth like butter, and are reminiscent of mou caramel with licorice flavors.
Being an artisanal honey, its color, aroma and flavor may vary slightly from year to year.
