Winter Heath honey, harvested in Val di Zoldo , in the Belluno Dolomites.
It is a very rare variety of honey and almost impossible to find, because the heather flowers are typical of the Alpine areas.
The beekeeper Renato Panciera made it his distinctive trait as he was the first beekeeper to collect it in purity in Italy starting from the end of the 70s . It was he who presented it for the first time at the "Grandi Mieli d'Italia" competition where it obtained the recognition of the golden drop for several years.

High mountain collection area. At the end of March, the very white snow still shines on the peaks of Civetta (3,220 m), while going further down the valley, in the areas most exposed to the sun, you can admire the blooming of real carpets of wild heather flowers, much visited by bees.
A honey that requires great sacrifices and skill because it is harvested at high altitudes , above 1,000 meters (bees can even forage up to 2,000 metres ) in the period between February and early April when the hours of light are still few and the temperatures quite cold. To be able to produce it, the bee colonies must emerge healthy and strong from the winter period.
